Job Resources for Alumni

Alumni can access the MHL's print materials in the library but must pay for a borrower card if they want to take them out. There is no alumni access to computers or other databases. 

General Search tips

Searching online - Check out newspaper articles, consulting firm reports on industries, company websites and rankings. Search company LinkedIn profiles,Twitter accounts, other social media for news/trends/hiring information. 

The U of T Career Centre offers services, including a few online databases (Vault, Career Cruiser) for alumni for a limited time period after graduation. 

Toronto Public Library resources

    The Toronto Public Library has many useful job search resources for MBA graduates. Use your TPL library card to access the following electronic and print resources. If you do not live in Toronto, check with your local library to see which resources they offer.

Public companies in Canada

  • Scott's Business Directories Online (e-resource)
    Hover over "NAICS", select "All NAICS" and choose NAICS codes from the list provided. Further refine search using criteria such as city, postal code, and company demographics.
  • Gale Directory Library (e-resource)
    Click on "Advanced Search", select relevant directories (ex: Consultants and Consulting Organizations Directory), and refine search geographically by using the pulldown menus.
  • Financial Services Canada (e-resource)
    Click "Check all / Clear all", then click "Financial Services Canada", use "Control" to select multiple organization types. Further refine search with criteria such as city or postal code.
  • Financial Post Advisor (e-resource)
    Select "Lead list generator", select "ProFile Canada", limit "Incorporation type" to public company, and narrow search using criteria such as SIC codes, city, and province.

Private companies in Canada

    Select "Lead list generator", select "ProFile Canada", limit "Incorporation type" to private company, and narrow search using criteria such as SIC codes, city, and province.
  • Canadian key business directory
    Use in-person at the library. Most recent edition available at the Toronto Reference and the North York Central library branches.

Public companies in other countries

  • Mergent Online (e-resource)
    Deselect all boxes except for "International Company Database (Active)", select "Primary NAICS", and use "Code Lookup" to find industry. Choose country from pulldown menu and click "Search".
  • Kompass Business Directories
    Online access available at the Toronto Reference and North York Central branches only.

  • Mergent Online (e-resource)
    Click the "Report" tab and enter either the company's name or ticker symbol to find reports. Click on an industry area and select "North America" as the region to find industry reports.

  • TPL maintains a list of business websites, such as company directories for specific industries. Use the subjects listed in the "Website categories" to find free resources for your job search.
