David Johnston on Empathy and Turning Compassion into Action

February 16, 2023 | 5 to 6 p.m. EDT

David Johnston, the 28th Governor General, is convinced that empathy is the best route to peace and progress in a post-pandemic world. In his new book, he explores how kindness can turn into action to improve areas like education, immigration, healthcare, law and business ethics. On February 16, Johnston will be joined by David Beatty, academic director for The David and Sharon Johnston Centre for Corporate Governance Innovation at the Rotman School.

The Prepared Leader with Erika James and Lynn Perry Wooten

January 23, 2023 | 5 to 6 p.m. EDT

How can we emerge from crises more resilient than before? That’s the roadmap for Erika James (Dean, Wharton School) and Lynn Perry Wooten’s (President, Simmons University) new book, The Prepared Leader, which distills more than two decades of their research on crisis management, decision-making and leadership. The co-authors will be joined by Susan Christoffersen, dean of the Rotman School.

Paul Bloom, professor of psychology at U of T, offers a comprehensive overview of the field of psychology in his new book, Psych: The Story of the Human Mind. He’ll be at Rotman on March 9 to discuss what psychology can teach us about pressing moral issues, from belief in conspiracy theories to the discussion around implicit racial bias.
