Leader in Corporate Governance Appointed as Executive-in-Residence at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Toronto – A Canadian leader in corporate governance, Peter Dey, has been appointed as an Executive-in-Residence at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

 

He joins the Rotman School to co-chair a project revisiting the guidance for good governance in the light of 21st century realities and the global COVID-19 pandemic. The project will examine global best practices for corporate boards through a review of scholarly research, research roundtables, debates and stakeholder consultations. This project is sponsored by the Rotman School’s Michael Lee-Chin Family Institute for Corporate Citizenship.

 

The project will be co-chaired by Prof. Sarah Kaplan who has been appointed a Fellow of the Lee-Chin Institute. She is currently Distinguished Professor and Director, Institute for Gender and the Economy at the Rotman School. Her latest book, The 360º Corporation: From Stakeholder Trade-offs to Transformation addresses the social impact of business and how corporate social responsibility can be a source of innovation and resilience.

 

Peter Dey is Chairman of Paradigm Capital, an independent investment dealer and member of the Board of Directors of Gran Tierra Energy. He has held numerous corporate directorships, was Managing Director and Chairman of Morgan Stanley Canada (1994-2001), and a partner at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt. From 1993-1995, he chaired the Toronto Stock Exchange Committee on corporate governance which established guidelines for the governance of Canadian corporations in the report “Where Were The Directors?” (also known as the “Dey Report”).

 

The Lee-Chin Institute focuses on two themes: Sustainable finance: helping investors to understand and make decisions about the risks—and opportunities—they face, given escalating environmental and social challenges. Sustainability strategy: encompassing the broad range of organizational responses to social and environmental challenges, including how organizations can make their strategies more robust and resilient and how they can find opportunity in applying their business models to help address these challenges.
