New Faculty Appointments Announced at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Toronto – Ten faculty appointments across five academic areas for the 2020/21 academic year were announced today at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. The appointments help to strengthen the research and teaching activities at the Rotman School.

“We are very pleased to welcome this outstanding group of new faculty members and are excited about the contributions they will bring to our research and teaching community,” says Craig Doidge, a professor of finance and Vice-Dean, Faculty, who also holds the Professorship in Corporate Governance.  

Dinara Akchurina joins the Rotman School as an assistant professor of marketing. She received her PhD from Insead. Her research interests include quantitative marketing, consumer usage, consumer search, product design, and structural models.

Nasser Barjesteh will be an assistant professor of operations management and statistics. His PhD is from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His research interests include ride-hailing markets, service operations, pricing, revenue management, empirical analysis, stochastic control, and queueing theory.

Rhia Catapano is an assistant professor of marketing. She holds a PhD from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Her research interests include consumer psychology, sharing and advocacy, attitudes and persuasion, consumer well-being, and judgment and decision-making.

Alexandra Motut has been appointed as an assistant professor of organizational behaviour and human resource management, teaching stream. For the past year, she has been the executive director of the Rotman Commerce Centre for Professional Skills, a role she will continue to hold.

Vahid Roshanaei, assistant professor of operations management and statistics, teaching stream. He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto and most recently was a post-doctoral fellow and lecturer with the Rotman School. He teaches operations management and supply chain operations in the Rotman Commerce and MBA programs.

Five faculty members with appointments at the University of Toronto Scarborough have received cross-appointments at the Rotman School.

Elizabeth Dhuey is an associate professor of economics at the University of Toronto Scarborough. She is cross-appointed to the University’s Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources, Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, Department of Economics, and Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. Her research focuses on the economics of education and in particular, the early years of children’s development.

Andrea Down is an assistant professor of accounting. She holds a PhD from the University of Michigan. Her research examines the provision, acquisition, and utilization of private information in disclosure, debt contracting, and auditing settings.

Steven Riddiough is an associate professor of finance. His research interests broadly span international finance, international macroeconomics, empirical asset pricing, social finance, household finance, and cryptocurrency markets. Prior to joining the University, he was an assistant professor of finance at the University of Melbourne.

Shreyas Sekar is an assistant professor of operations management and statistics. He received his PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his research is centered around data-driven decision making in dynamic and strategic environments, with applications to digital marketplaces.

Yue Yu is an assistant professor of economics. She holds a PhD from Columbia University. Her research interests include urban economics, economic geography, international trade, and development economics.
