Seven New Faculty Appointed at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Toronto – Seven new faculty appointments in economics, finance, organizational behaviour, marketing and strategic management were announced by the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management today for the new academic year. The appointments strengthen both teaching and research activities at the school.

Chang Yuan Lee is an assistant professor of marketing. His research investigates consumer financial decision making, informing theories and practices in marketing areas like behavioral pricing and mental accounting. He recently earned his PhD from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.

George Newman has been appointed as an associate professor of organizational behaviour and human resource management for a two-year term. He studies creativity, identity, and the construction of meaning and was previously on the faculty at Yale University.

Katarzyna (Kate) Odziemkowska has joined the Rotman School as an assistant professor of strategic management.  Her research focuses on cooperative strategy—formal interorganizational relationships such as alliances or collaborations—in nonmarket settings. Previously she was a faculty member at Rice University.

Ting Xu will join the Rotman School on January 1 as an assistant professor of finance. Currently he is a faculty member with the Darden School of Business. His research focuses on entrepreneurial finance, FinTech and family firms. His work has explored angel financing, crowdfunding, innovation diffusion, labor market frictions in entrepreneurship, and governance of private firms.

Three faculty members with appointments at the University of Toronto Scarborough have received cross-appointments at the Rotman School.

Jean-Etienne de Bettignies will be a professor of strategic management effective on October 1. He is currently a professor and Distinguished Professor of Business Economics at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University. His research examines applications of contract theory to organizational economics, non-market strategy, entrepreneurship, and industrial organization.

Robert Gillezeau is an assistant professor of economic analysis and policy. His research focuses on topics in economic history, labour economics and public policy. Previously he was an assistant professor at the University of Victoria.

Yizhou Jin is an assistant professor of strategic management and a mentor with the Creative Destruction Lab. His research examines how data and AI technologies create and distribute economic value in imperfect markets. He was previously a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley
