Faculty Receive New Appointments and a Research Award at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Toronto – Two faculty members at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management have received new appointments as announced by the University recently. A third professor has received a research award recognizing a junior faculty member’s academic achievements.

Nathaniel Baum-Snow, a professor of economic analysis and policy, will hold the the Premier's Research Chair. Nitin Mehta, a professor of marketing, will hold the Ellison Professorship in Marketing.

Prof. Baum-Snow has research interests in urban and real estate economics, labor economics and economic geography. Recent research includes studies about housing supply and affordability, productivity spillovers that operate between firms at hyper local spatial scales and the causes and consequences of neighborhood change. He is a managing editor at the Journal of Urban Economics. He joined the Rotman School in 2016 from Brown University. His PhD from the University of Chicago.

Prof. Mehta’ research focuses on structural models of consumer search, multi-category choices, imperfect recall and learning, consumers' healthcare decisions, economics of binge consumption, adoption of AI by firms and consumers, and the societal impact of AI. He has won numerous awards for his research and teaching. He is currently the associate editor at Marketing Science and at the International Journal of Research in Marketing. He joined the Rotman School in 1999 and his PhD is from Carnegie Mellon University.

Kristin Duke, an assistant professor of marketing, is the 2022 winner of the Petro Canada Young Innovators Award Program. This award at the Rotman School recognizes a junior faculty member’s academic achievements and success in publishing innovative, cutting-edge work on business, economics, and management.

Prof. Duke is also a research fellow in the Behavioural Economics in Action at Rotman (BEAR) center. Her research investigates how consumers make decisions and experience the outcomes of those decisions—particularly when they involve risk, uncertainty, or complex emotions. Her work explores the impact of choice structures and framing of information on choice and welfare. She has a secondary interest in the psychology of technology. She joined the Rotman School in 2019 after completing a PhD at the University of California San Diego.
