Rotman School Professor Honoured Twice by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences

Toronto, November 17, 2011 - A professor at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management received two awards for lifetime achievement from the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) at their annual meeting held in Charlotte, NC this week.

Prof. Oded Berman was named a Fellow of INFORMS for his outstanding lifetime achievement in operations research and the management sciences and for demonstrating exceptional accomplishments and making significant contributions to the advancement of OR/MS during his academic career.

He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award by INFORMS's Section on Location Analysis. The award is given every three years to a researcher who has made significant lifetime contributions to location analysis research.

Oded Berman is the Sydney Cooper Chair in Business and Technology and a professor of operations management. He is a former associate dean of programs at the Rotman School. He received his PhD (1978) in Operations Research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He had been with the Electronic Systems Lab at MIT, the University of Calgary, and the University of Massachusetts at Boston, where he was also the Chairman of the Department of Management Sciences.

He has published over 200 refereed articles and has contributed to several books in his field. His main research interests include operations management in the service industry, location theory, network models, and stochastic inventory control. He served as an Area Editor for Operations Research and as an Associate Editor for Management Science. He is currently an Associate Editor for Transportation Science and Socio-Economic Planning Sciences.
