The scholarships, loans and other funding opportunities available to you will vary significantly based on your country of residence. Select one of the countries listed below to view region-specific information on financial assistance.

International students are encouraged to source funding from resources available within their home country. Please note, the Rotman School does not guarantee, co-sign, nor endorse any of these specific programs for funding.

Afghanistan

Description:

Aga Khan Foundation
The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies, in order to prepare them for employment, primarily within the AKDN. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant: 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year in June or July.

The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master's level courses. The Foundation accepts applications from nationals of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique. In France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada, applications are accepted from those who are originally from one of the above developing countries, are interested in development-related studies and who have no other means of financing their education.

Description:  Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships offer support to Australians to undertake study, research or professional development in a participating country or region.

Description:  General Sir John Monash Scholarships are Australia’s prestigious postgraduate scholarship program. Each year John Monash Scholarships are awarded to outstanding graduates from Australian universities, who have demonstrated leadership skills, and have a vision for a better Australia. The Scholarship enables them to undertake Masters or Doctoral degrees at the world’s best universities, towards that vision.

Description:  Bildungsfonds - Career Concept AG manages education funds which support MBA participants from Germany, Switzerland and Austria in financing tuition fees and cost of living. After completing the MBA programme and starting employment, following a grace period, participants must start paying back the loan.

Aga Khan Foundation

Type of Aid:  Engineers Canada – TD Meloche Monnex Scholarships
Description:  The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to engineers returning to university for further study or research in a field other than engineering. The field of study chosen should favour the acquisition of knowledge pertinent to enhancing the performance of the candidate in the engineering profession. Candidates must be accepted or registered in a full-time program, no later than September 2015, in a faculty other than engineering.

Type of Aid:  Women in Financial Markets Scholarship
Description:  The National Bank of Canada offers a Women in Capital Markets Scholarship for female students who are entering or currently in a graduate-level program with the intent to pursue a career in financial markets.

Up to three successful candidates will each be granted a one-time scholarship in the amount of $10,000. The selected candidates will be paired with a Senior Mentor from the National Bank, Financial Markets group, ensuring a link between the recipient and National Bank throughout their studies. Recipients will also be offered internship opportunities within the organization.

Type of Aid:  FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship
Description:  FINCAD established the annual FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship Program to encourage and support outstanding women in the field of finance, particularly relating to the use of derivatives in capital markets and/or financial risk management, and give them an opportunity to cultivate their skills and knowledge.

The FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship Program offers an award of US$10,000 to support graduate-level studies. The scholarship is open to women of any age and citizenship who are studying Finance in a graduate-level program.

Type of Aid:  CIHR Science to Business S2B Program
Description:  The Canadian Institutes for Health Research's Science to Business (S2B) program is designed to encourage individuals with PhDs in a health-related field to pursue an MBA. It is anticipated that successful applicants to the program will go on to apply their management and scientific expertise by pursuing careers in fields that support commercialization and innovation in Canada such as management, regulatory affairs, finance, research, technology transfer, and public policy. The goal of this program is to develop a cadre of professionals knowledgeable in health research and management, and to foster an entrepreneurial culture within and around the research community.

The maximum amount per award is $30,000 for up to 2 years. This funding is non-renewable.

Type of Aid:  Indspire Canada
Description:  First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students can apply for bursaries and scholarships from this organization. With the support of its funding partners, it provides financial awards, delivers programs, and shares resources with the goal of closing the gap in Indigenous education.

Type of Aid:  NEADS National Student Award Program
Description:  The National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) National Student Awards Program is offered to encourage full access to post-secondary education for persons with disabilities, who often have greater barriers to participation in higher education, as well as extra costs because of their disabilities. Students must currently be registered in and continuing at post-secondary institution and provide documented proof of registration as part of the application and on receipt of the award. The award will be offered to outstanding applicants who meet the criteria of the program. The awards are paid directly to the post-secondary institution (in the students’ accounts) that the recipients are attending to defray the cost of tuition fees for post-secondary study. Description:  LUMNI - provides funding to students. In contrast to loans which require students to repay the amount they were lent, students pay a certain percentage of their salary after graduation for a fixed number of months. If a student’s salary is low, the monthly payment is low. If a student’s salary is high, the monthly payment is high.

Description:  Natwest MBA Loan. Must be between ages of 18-40 at time of application. Must have at least 3 years of work experience. You are expected to pay 20% from your own funds.

Germany          

Type of Aid:  Scholarships
Description: 

DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst - funds both German students for studies abroad and foreign students for studies in Germany.

Haniel Stiftung - Up to eight scholarships every year are awarded for a business-related postgraduate course in or outside Europe. This allows young German scholars to acquire supplementary qualifications to take up responsibilities in multinational companies and international organisations.

Deutsche Bildung - Students from Germany can apply for loans for up to €25,000.

Description:  Onassis Foundation - grants scholarships for postgraduate studies in Greece and abroad to individuals with Greek nationality or citizenship, who have successfully completed their undergraduate studies and possess all the necessary qualifications to pursue postgraduate studies

Description: The Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships aim at financing outstanding Hong Kong students for overseas postgraduate studies.  They are expected to contribute significantly to the development of Hong Kong after graduation.

Description: 

GradRight Financing – for students from India studying at the Rotman School of Management.

Via GradRight's Fundright platform, Rotman's Indian admits and applicants are able to access 90% of the education loan lending market with a click of a button. Loans are offered to Indian nationals on FundRight by banks, NBFCs, and international lenders. Rotman does not charge any fee from students or GradRight for this service. You may access their services for free here.

Type of Aid:  Scholarship
Description:  J.N. Tata Endowment for the Higher Education of Indians – The J.N. Tata Endowment offers loan scholarships for higher studies abroad only. The loan amount (ranging between Rs.1,50,000 and Rs.6,00,000) awarded to each scholar is determined by the norms laid down for the purpose and does not cover the full cost of studies. All applicants do not necessarily qualify for the maximum amount. Selected scholars may also qualify for a gift scholarship from the Jamsetji Tata Trust and a Travel Grant from the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, based on the sole discretion of the Trustees of the concerned Trusts. A gift scholarship can amount to a maximum of Rs.10,00,000.

Scholarships for masters and doctoral programs are offered by this government agency. Funding for both educational (i.e. tuition fees, book allowances) and non-educational costs (i.e. living allowance, transportation, health insurance) is available. Scholarship recipients are required to return to Indonesia upon graduation.

Description:  OAS Academic Scholarship for Graduate Studies - awarded for full-time studies at any university in an OAS Member State, with the exception of the applicant’s sponsoring country.

Description:  CONACYT – A few Rotman students from Mexico have been funded by this program.

Description: Fondo para el Desarrollo de Recursos Humanos (FIDERH) – Offers loans to Mexican students to finance their studies, either in Mexico or abroad.

Description:

BecasMOB - Scholarships are awarded to Mexicans, who wish to pursue a Masters degree at a recognized university abroad. The scholarships are partial and complementary and cover only the first year of study.

Description: FUNED - Provides up to $18,000 USD in loans and funding for candidates studying in the Full-Time MBA. Applications must go directly to FUNED.

Description: 

Agencia Andalusia del Conocimiento - The TALENTIA Fellowship Program is an initiative by the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Science and Employment that provides postgraduate scholarships to students from Andalusia allowing them to study abroad in selected institutions.

The AAC pays for tuition, travel expenses and a living allowance (housing, health insurance) for a maximum of two academic years.

 

Fundación Barrie - offers postgraduate scholarships for studies abroad to students who have a relationship with Galicia (born in Galicia, have a Galician father or mother, reside in Galicia since Jan 2012, have a university education from any of the three Galician universities).

 

Fundación Eduarda Justo - The Foundation's Postgraduate Scholarship program strives to identify and select young professionals with the greatest potential for the future, mainly entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs, and seeks to provide them the necessary resources for studying in graduate programs in the most prestigious universities and business schools in the world.

 

Fundación Obra Social y Monte de Piedad de Madrid - offers financial support to Spanish residents of Madrid for postgraduate studies in universities and centers of higher education and research anywhere in the world.

 

Fundación Rafael del Pino – offers scholarships for graduates and Spanish graduates aimed at expanding their studies full-time, in world-class universities and research centers.

 

Fundación Ramón Areces - sponsors scholarship programmes for study abroad to enable Spanish post-graduate students to study at some of the world's leading research centres.

United Kingdom

United States    

 

A US student studying in Canada is able to take out the same student loans they would if they were studying in the US. Most Canadian universities are accredited by the US Department of Education.

Type of Aid:  Federal Loan Program
Description:  USA Federal Direct Loan Program - Citizens of the United States studying in degree programs at the University of Toronto can apply for financial assistance from the USA Federal Direct Loan Program.  The U.S. Department of Education is your lender; your loan is administered by a federal loan servicer who acts on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education. Alternative/Private Loans

Description: Students who are applying for alternative/private loans must complete the Request for Alternative/Private Loan School Certification available on the Enrolment Services website to have the University of Toronto certify their loan.

PrivateStudentLoans.com – This website allows students to compare student loans from different companies.

Juno (formerly LeverEdge) is a collective bargaining organization for student loans. They negotiate with lenders to provide a deal available to U.S. Citizens and International Students with a valid U.S. cosigner.

Type of Aid:  P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund (for female students only)
Description:

The P.E.O. ELF loan is intended to help a woman attain a degree or certification from an accredited postsecondary educational institution.

The maximum loan amount is $12,000 for all programs of study and may not exceed the amount recommended by her sponsoring chapter. Loans are subject to the availability of funds.

Following the graduation date originally stated on the application, interest will begin accruing and will be billed on an annual basis. Interest accruals and payments will not be deferred if the student continues with further study. The current rate of interest is 2%.

All applicants for the ELF program must be sponsored by a P.E.O. local chapter.

Description: Fulbright Canada – Awards for American Students
The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program operates on the principle of reciprocal exchange and provides opportunities for outstanding American students to study and/or conduct research in Canada. Award recipients include American citizens who are graduate students, prospective graduate students, or junior professionals.
