Why did you decide to study the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting program?

I decided to study the Professional Diploma in Professional Accounting program for a few reasons. First, the opportunity to fast track the CPA core and electives seemed like something I couldn’t pass up. During the last couple of years of undergrad, I became concerned with how I would manage to complete the CPA process while also working full-time. When I learned of the opportunity to get it all done in 12 weeks during the summer, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Second, I looked forward to meeting all sorts of new people that I will no doubt be seeing more of in the workplace in the years to come. Finally, I liked the idea of being taught new technical areas face to face in a classroom of modest size, as in undergrad. I believe that the small and well-structured classes are a huge benefit that will help to deepen my understanding of new technical areas.

What are your main reasons for choosing Rotman?

Rotman is located near Toronto’s financial district, a perfect location for a graduate program in professional accounting. In addition, I completed my undergraduate degree in Toronto and have lived downtown for the past 4 years, so I was really glad to be able to stay in the same city during the summer months. Another great thing about Rotman are the high-quality professors that teach the courses. These profs are not only experienced and incredibly knowledgeable on all topics, you can tell right from the start that they truly care about the wellbeing of each and every one of their students.

What are you looking forward to most in the program?

I’m most looking forward to the exposure we will get to past CFE cases and case writing opportunities, as I believe there’s no better way to study for the CFE than writing past examinations. We have multiple opportunities to practice our case writing skills every week, as well as countless feedback opportunities with our profs and with the teaching assistants. All of this practice will only help me build my confidence in case writing as the CFE approaches.
