What will you achieve in eight months? If you’re serious about a career in financial risk management, our new graduate degree program at Rotman is what you need to jump start your career, and give you a competitive edge over job applicants with just an undergraduate degree.

Learn market relevant skills and knowledge. Our courses in the Master of Financial Risk Management program are tailored to prepare you for an exciting career in the field. Over two terms, you will take ten courses focused on the various areas of risk, from credit to operational risk. You will learn from world-renowned faculty, attend guest speaker lectures, and take advantage of our state-of-the-art finance lab. Get familiarized with what each course has to offer in our course descriptions.

Apply your learning. Our Risk Management Project is your opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom. This portion of the program takes place between the fall term and the winter term. Working onsite with an organization, you will develop a solution to a risk management problem commonly faced by financial institutions in collaboration with other students and with guidance from industry professionals. This will be your chance to see what it’s like to work in financial risk management and to make deep connections with practitioners. The work you will be doing through this period is similar to an internship experience, giving you a competitive edge in the job market.

Overall, this program includes experiential elements such as simulations and interactive online content that make the experience engaging and hands-on.  While we value theory and consider it an important part of the program, practice is at the core of this program as we want to train you to be the next leader in financial risk management.

Network, communicate and collaborate. You will get many opportunities to practice your communication skills throughout the program cycle. These soft skills are continuously emphasized as critical to business leaders. On the whole, this program will give you the tools and practice to come out with the confidence to present your ideas to executive leaders, and a network that will help you move forward in your career even after graduation.

Make use of our customized Career Services. The MFRM program counts on a number of resources, including a career services team prepared to help manage your career. Rotman’s industry connections together with our industry events, workshops, 24/7 online career resources and one-on-one sessions with a career coach will ensure that you can succeed in your targeted job search.

The Master of Financial Risk Management is a full time program designed to prepare ambitious young professionals for careers in risk management and finance.
