Why did you decide to study the MFRM program?

I chose to study financial risk based on my exposure to risk management and hedging in the final year of my undergraduate degree. I became curious about the particular area in finance and decided to apply for a masters’ degree within financial risk.

"Studying in the MFRM program provided me with the solid foundation required to pursue a career in risk and eventually use my experience to work within academia."

What was your main reason for choosing Rotman?

I chose Rotman because of its great reputation, vast alumni network, and the educational resources provided by Rotman. Another reason for choosing Rotman is because of the finance classes led by exceptional finance professionals with years of industry experience.  Finally, the school has strong partnerships with the top financial institutions, banks and consulting firms, which actively recruit Rotman graduates.

What was the highlight of the Rotman experience?

The industry work experience for the program was extremely good and invaluable. I was partnered with an amazing student and our industry partner was RBC. Most of the students in the program were able to have industry partners that catered to their skills and provided technical skill development.

Did Rotman and the MFRM program meet your expectations?

The Rotman School and the MFRM prograexceeded my expectations in a handful of ways. Firstly, the industry work experience provided during the pandemic was exceptionally helpful to build my technical skills and seek networking opportunities. Secondly, the community activities and extracurriculars provided by the program fostered a great sense of connection with my cohort.

How was your experience with the Rotman community?

The Rotman community is very vast and varied. There are resources which cater to the diverse interests of the student body. As an active member of the community, I was a member of the Rotman African Caribbean Business Club which afford me various volunteer and networking opportunities. I was also able to participate in case competitions and attend workshops provided by the community. I made great friends within my program like Monmanat Chawla, Liyi Zhang and Yi Ding, who spent countless hours working with me on projects and assignments.

What would you say to someone considering choosing the MFRM?

The MFRM program is not an easy program. The program is challenging and helps build character, but it is worth every effort, if one is driven.

"The program can only provide results based on the effort you put into it."

One of its main attractions are the high achieving and ambitious individuals you will encounter. It will provide unexpected opportunities and great adventures as you grow within the program. Therefore, for someone considering the program I would say go for it! However, be prepared to work really hard as a part of this amazing community.
