Why did you decide to study the Master of Management Analytics program?

As I started the final year of my engineering degree, I was uncertain as to what I wanted to do after undergrad. There were so many different industries and jobs that I was interested in, I had no idea what I actually wanted to be doing after I graduated. There were, however, a few things that I was sure about: I loved solving puzzles, I loved coding and working with numbers, and I loved working in teams. When I heard about the Master of Management Analytics program at a career fair, I was hooked! Not only does the MMA program equip you with the technical and analytical skills that are so desired right now, but it also teaches you how to apply your knowledge in a business context. You are taught how to take messy, real-world problems, and come out in the end with digestible and insightful solutions. This aligned so perfectly with my passions for team-based problem solving and working with computers and numbers, I knew I had to join the MMA program!

What were your top reasons for choosing Rotman?

The intensive curriculum that is both theoretical and practical, the professional development opportunities, and the clear passion for the program exhibited by Rotman faculty and staff drove me to choose Rotman. Additionally, we just finished our marketing course, so I would be remiss not to mention that the renowned Rotman brand was also a large influence.

What are you looking forward to most in the program?

I’m really excited about the practicum project. It’s fantastic to gain theoretical knowledge and technical skills, however the practicum will give me the opportunity to actually apply these skills in a real-world business problem. As a student coming straight to Rotman from my undergrad, I think it will give me a great opportunity to prepare for what lies ahead!

What do you expect to gain in your next 11 months at Rotman?

In addition to the technical, analytical, and communication skills that I will gain through the comprehensive curriculum, I am really hoping to broaden my network and make connections with people from a variety of industries and backgrounds.

How have you found the online experience at Rotman?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I had to complete my final few months of my undergrad online, so I was already somewhat accustomed to the various challenges that come with online learning. It is definitely a different experience staring at a computer screen all day rather than being in the building and making face-to-face connections, however, my peers and the MMA program have done a fantastic job at making the experience as engaging and enjoyable as possible.

Did COVID-19 make you re-consider your decision to study this year, and if so, what made you decide to continue?

I did strongly consider deferring my acceptance to the MMA program due to COVID-19, however, when it became apparent that the work-from-home experience would probably continue for much longer than most people originally anticipated, I realized that the online MMA experience could bring value. Learning how to interact professionally in an online environment, both one-on-one and in a group setting, will be incredibly valuable to me as I enter the online workforce.

The Master of Management Analytics is designed to give students the advanced data management, analytics, and communication skills needed to become an analytics professional.
