Headshot Karen Steinmann

Karen Steinmann, MFin ‘21

  • Job title: Dealer Initiatives Lead
  • Previous education: BA, Political Science, UBC
  • Other designations: CFA

What is your current job and what role does it play within the finance industry?

My current role is dealer initiative lead at a wealth management company. My team oversees the launch of new products.

Why did you decide to study the MFin program?

I completed my CFA designation and loved the material but wanted a more practical understand of the subject matter.

"I chose Rotman as it’s the best in the business."

How are you finding Rotman’s community?

Rotman has an incredible community, everyone from your peers, program managers, and profs is extremely approachable. Even the alumni are eager to connect with virtual strangers due to the shared educational background.

What has been a highlight of your Rotman experience?

I lucked out with an incredible cohort. Studying side-by-side with people going through the same stresses of working full-time, studying part-time AND transitioning from in-class to online thanks to a global pandemic has been invaluable in helping me succeed in this program.

Future plans?

I am hoping to transition my career to one where I can use my finely honed skills from Rotman.

What would you say to someone considering choosing the MFin?

If working hard, learning from the best in the business, and working alongside some brilliant minds appeals to you, DO IT!
