Rotman PhD Students in Strategic Management and Marketing Honoured by Research Organizations.

February 28, 2023

Toronto – Two PhD students at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School have recently received awards in support of their dissertations.

Daphné Baldassari, a PhD student in strategic management, is among the recipients of the Will Mitchell Dissertation Research Grant Program from The Strategy Research Foundation of the Strategic Management Society (SMS) for her dissertation on “Designing Gender Equity: Strategic Responses to Structural Diversity Interventions.”

The program was renamed this year in honour of the late Will Mitchell, a much beloved professor of strategic management at the Rotman School, who died suddenly in December 2021, to recognize his contributions to the SMS and the education of doctoral students in strategic management. It aims to support doctoral student dissertation research in the field of strategic management.

Mohsen Foroughifar, a PhD student in marketing, is among the winners of the 2022 Informs Society of Marketing Science (ISMS) Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Competition. He received the Sheth Foundation ISMS Doctoral Dissertation Award for “The Challenges of Deploying an Algorithmic Pricing Tool: Evidence from Airbnb.” He will present his work at the upcoming 2023 ISMS Marketing Science Conference at the University of Miami in a special session devoted to the dissertation awards. Later this year he will join Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business as an assistant professor.
