Why did you decide to study the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting program?

I decided to join the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting program because I wanted to attend a program that would best prepare me for the upcoming common final examination (CFE). Having limited case writing experience, I wanted to challenge myself through the GDipPA program and ensure that by the end of the summer, I would be able to use my academic knowledge from undergrad and apply it to cases as necessary to pass the CFE the following year.

What are your main reasons for choosing Rotman?

I decided to join the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting program at Rotman because of their reputation, people, and location. Rotman has a strong reputation for knowledgeable professors who provide high-quality education. I wanted to attend a program that would best prepare me for the upcoming common final examination (CFE) and Rotman has had consistently high CFE pass rates. Moreover, I wanted to attend a program where I could connect with like-minded individuals who were just as hard-working and determined to grow personally and professionally. The third reason I chose the GDipPA program at Rotman would be the schools’ location in downtown Toronto. Rotman has an easily accessible location and Toronto is an amazing city to explore in the summer!

What are you looking forward to most in the program?

I am eagerly looking forward to connecting with like-minded individuals who share similar interests and passions. I cannot wait to grow alongside the GDipPA Class of 2023 personally and professionally as we develop the accounting mindset required to become successful CPAs and make a meaningful impact in the business world.

What is the highlight of the Rotman experience?

The highlight of my Rotman experience has to be participating in the very first GDipPA case competition. This was a pivotal moment as it was the first opportunity that I had to work with a diverse team of students. I truly made my closest Rotman friends through that first case competition and I could not have asked for a better introduction to the program. Overall, the case competition enhanced my academic growth and provided me with invaluable practical experience that I will carry into my future career endeavors.

What would you say to someone considering choosing the GdipPA?

I would say trust the process. Everyone is going through the same emotions and challenges as you. You are not alone! While the GdipPA program might be well known for its difficulty, it truly is rewarding. The program provides numerous opportunities for personal growth and the development of valuable skills that help tremendously in case writing. The sense of accomplishment and pride you will feel upon completing the GdipPA program is incomparable. It is just about convincing yourself to take that first step!
