Why did you decide to study the Master of Financial Risk Management program?

Through my undergrad study, I found I was interested in risk management in different financial institutions, and I wished to work in this industry at the start of my career. The structure of the program is well designed that mixes finance courses with more quantitative skills. Besides, the Risk Management industry project provides an opportunity to apply knowledge to a real-world workplace with professionals in the industry. I can learn from these people and develop my career opportunities.

What were your top reasons for choosing Rotman?

World-renowned faculty:
Rotman has world-class faculty members. All our professors are respected and engaging. Not only being passionate during class but also reachable and helpful outside the classroom. The opportunity to learn from and work with these faculty members is one of the top reasons I chose Rotman.

Networking opportunities:
Rotman provides plenty of networking opportunities. From the first day of our orientation, we are granted opportunities to connect with alumni and professors. And in the following months, we have numerous networking events in different forms. In these events, we can relate to and learn from the professionals in the field.

Toronto:
Toronto is another reason why I choose Rotman. As an international student, being in a welcoming community and environment is essential for my academics and career. Toronto is one of the largest cities in the world, with considerable diversity in communities. Studying and working in Toronto can help me meet people with different backgrounds and different cultures.

What are you looking forward to most in the program?

The most exciting thing that I look forward to in the program is our MFRM Industry project. Between the fall and spring semesters, we will have a two-months practicum project. It is the best opportunity during the program that we could implement our knowledge in a real-world project. We are assigned based on our backgrounds and our preferences. For example, I am assigned to a machine learning project based on my previous programming background. Also, each team is assigned an academic advisor, monitoring and supervising the progress of projects. The design of the practicum project can greatly help coordinate among students, school, and industry.
