Why did you decide to study the Master of Management Analytics program?

Management analytics/ business analytics is the most popular area in recent years, and the reason is that the industry is eager to find people with both business knowledge and technical knowledge. By working in the financial industry, I also see the trend of understanding the technical and mathematical analysis part and able to present those to senior managers. That’s the top reason I decide to join the MMA program.

What were your top reasons for choosing Rotman?

There are a couple of reasons why I choose the Rotman MMA program. First, I found courses and mini-modules to be very helpful and relevant to what is going on in the industry right now. Second, I heard great feedback from previous students about the program practicum project and program support services. It indicates that Rotman put a lot of effort to make this an excellent program.

What are you looking forward to most in the program?

Practicum project and getting to know my classmates hopefully meeting classmates and professors in person later in 2021.

What do you expect to gain in your next 11 months at Rotman?

In the next 11 months, I would love to improve my technical skills and my storytelling skills. Also, I would like to know more industry insights from experts via seminars or networking sessions.

How have you found the online experience at Rotman? 

It has been great so far, although online learning has put some difficulties in group working and relationship building, I found the experience to be better than expected. I would like to give credits to program coordinators who put a ton of effort into making the online experience a good one (having an online social group, giving out welcome packages, providing food and beverage support etc.). Also, classmates are super friendly and organize social activities from time to time (following government regulation).

Did COVID-19 make you re-consider your decision to study this year, and if so, what made you decide to continue? 

I’ve re-considered if I should study this year or wait until next year since I was working already at the time of applying to this program. I evaluated the cost and return of attending the program or keeping working for another year. In the end, I think the return of attending this program outweigh the return for just working another year in my current position.
