Harnessing the Power of Community

decorative

Our community of alumni, supporters, researchers, faculty, staff and students is powerful indeed. Last year, 2,934 alumni engaged with the School by attending events, serving as mentors, speakers, mock interview coaches, board and committee members and more.

Rotman donors committed over $10 million in new gifts and pledges in the 2019-2020 fiscal year to advance the School’s priorities, including student scholarship support, contributions to the Rotman Self Development Lab and the Executive Education Tower (a future 14-storey wood tower) and investment in Rotman Centres and Institutes.

As donors continued to help the School tackle the numerous challenges brought about by COVID-19, our faculty and staff worked hard to keep Rotman running smoothly, anticipating our students’ needs and providing critical leadership to business and society. We also pivoted to offer all our other services—academic and career advising, professional skills workshops, and student life initiatives—remotely, supporting students as they navigated the pandemic challenges.

Peter McMullin, MBA ’67, and his classmates came together to support talented MBA students by creating the Class of 1967 Scholarship with a collective class gift of $500,000. (Rotman is matching the endowment payout to double the award value.)

In-person public and alumni events and professional development programs were soon replaced by virtual events and a webinar series, Managing Uncertainty: Adapting to and learning from the COVID-19 crisis, which helped support our community and stay close to our many diverse stakeholders. These webinars attracted between 500 and 1,600 registrants to the live stream, with many others watching the recordings.

As we embark on a new year, it is clear that Rotman insights and ingenuity are needed more than ever. With donor support, we are providing crucial leadership at a time of tremendous uncertainty.

Thank you for your commitment, your support and your transformative impact.

Yule Schmidt

“I set out to obtain my MBA because I aspired to entrepreneurship, and thanks to the skills and network I built at Rotman, I am now Chief Strategy Officer at a wine cellar management start-up. Nothing has made a stronger impact on my achievement of this goal than the support of those who have helped me along the way. You have made a significant difference in my career and, by extension, my life. I am deeply grateful.”

Yule Schmidt, MBA Candidate, 2021, Larry Wasser Scholarship
