Event synopsis:

Process mining is a transformative approach to analyzing and improving business processes through the extraction of knowledge from event logs readily available in organizational information systems. Unlike traditional data mining, which focuses on discovering patterns and knowledge from large data sets without a priori consideration of process flow, process mining specifically targets the optimization and enhancement of business processes. It bridges the gap between process management and data science by visualizing the actual performance of business processes, identifying bottlenecks, and uncovering deviations from the intended process flow.

Opher Baron, Distinguished Professor of Operations Management, Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto

Opher Baron is a Distinguished Professor of Operations Management at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. His research interests include queueing, business analytics, service operations (such as healthcare), autonomous vehicles, and revenue management. Opher's work is published in leading journals such as Operations Research, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, and he has won several research and teaching awards and grants, including the 1000 Talents Plan Scholar from the Shanghai Municipal Government, 2017 and the Rotman 2023 Distinguished Scholarly Contribution Award. He has given numerous invited keynote lectures and seminars, chaired several conferences, clusters, and sessions, and is currently serving on the advisory board and editorial boards of several journals. He has a PhD in Operations Management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an MBA and BSc in Industrial Engineering and Management from The Technion.

 
     Xu Chu, Senior Software Engineer, Celonis

Xu Chu is a senior staff software engineer at Celonis and an assistant professor of computer science at Georgia Tech. He is responsible for exploring and developing  research and products that  integrate ML/AI into Celonis' process intelligence graph.

 
   Sarah Polech, Partner Manager, Academic Alliance, Celonis

Sarah Polech is a partner manager for Celonis' Academic Alliance. She is responsible for aligning students, professors, and researchers with process mining expertise and industry members.

    Arik Senderovich, Assistant Professor, School of Information Technologies (ITEC), York University and Assistant Professor, Rotman School of Management

Arik Senderovich is an Assistant Professor at the School of Information Technologies (ITEC) at York University. He is also an Assistant Professor at the Rotman School of Management) where he supervises MMA student projects, teaches colloquia, and organizes professional events. Prior to joining ITEC he held Assistant Professor positions at the Rotman School of Management and the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto. Arik is the co-founder at SiMLQ, a process mining company, which has a vibrant R&D center in Toronto. Arik’s area of research lies in the intersection of Operations Management, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence.  Currently, he focuses on developing methodologies for automatically learning models of complex and congested environments (such as hospitals and public transportation systems) from data logs.

 

Wil van der Aalst, Full Professor, RWTH Aachen University and Chief Scientist, Celonis

Wil van der Aalst is an Alexander-von-Humboldt professor at RWTH Aachen University, leading the Process and Data Science (PADS) group and also the Chief Scientist at Celonis. He is better known as the "Godfather of Process Mining" and one of the most cited computer scientists in the world (top-10 worldwide, according to research.com). At Celonis, he helps to transfer state-of-the-art process-mining techniques into the product and disseminate process-mining knowledge.

    Ryan Webb, Director, TD Management Data and Analytics Lab and Associate Professor, Rotman School of Management

Ryan Webb’s research integrates neuroscience, psychology, and economics to provide insight into consumer behaviour. Ryan serves on the editorial board of PNASnexus and received a Ph.D. in Economics from Queen’s University and research fellowships at New York University and the California Institute of Technology.

     Matthias Weidlich, Professor, Department of Computer Science, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

Matthias Weidlich is a full professor at the Department of Computer Science at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU Berlin), Germany, where he holds the Chair on Databases and Information Systems. Before joining HU Berlin, he held positions at Imperial College London and at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. He has a PhD in Computer Science from the Hasso-Plattner-Institute, University of Potsdam. His research focuses on data-driven process analysis, event stream processing, and exploratory data analysis. He serves as Co-Editor in Chief for the Information Systems journal, is a member of the steering committees of the ACM DEBS and BPM conference series, and was elected into the Young Academy of Europe.
