20. What is your food and beverage policy?

1. What are your hours?

Please consult our hours page to confirm.  Fall/winter hours are 10:00- 9:00, Monday - Thursday, 10:00 - 5:00 pm on Friday and 12:00 -5:00 Saturday. Closed on Sunday. Summer hours vary by month.

Please note that on Saturdays, we are not open to anyone but Rotman graduate students and faculty with a building fob.

2. Why aren't you open on Saturdays to all students?

Building policy only allows those with a fob to have access on the weekends; we have no control over this policy.

3. Where are the reserve books and how long can I borrow them for?

The reserve books are located on the shelving next to the reference desk.  They are available for 3 hour loan; if you borrow them less than three hours before the MHL closes, you can have them overnight, due at opening time the next day (10:00 AM Monday- Friday; 12 pm on Saturdays).

Reserve books must be borrowed, even if you are using them in the library.  If you do not sign it out, other students will assume it is available.

4. I'm an undergraduate student, do you have the Rotman Commerce reserve books?

No, Commerce reserves are available at Robarts.  The MHL does not have them because undergraduates can not access our building on weekends.  Sometimes undergraduate courses use the same title as a graduate course and it's on reserve for a graduate course; undergrads can still borrow it but only during the week.

5. How long can I borrow books?

Please check here for the latest loan periods.  At time of writing, undergraduates, 2 weeks; graduate students, 6 weeks.

6. How do I put a hold on an item?

Once you've found the item in the UTL catalogue, click on the "sharing options" icon and select "Request".

7. I am a U of T student, but not a Rotman student. May I study in the library/borrow materials/use the Bloomberg or Finance Lab terminals?

Of course! All U of T students are welcome, and you can log on to the computers with your UTORid.

8. Can I print from the library computers and am I able to use my Rotman printer points?

You can print in the MHL with your T-Card.  You must have money on your T-Card; printer points do not work on the library printer. You can top up your T-Card online or at Robarts.

9. Does the MHL have a photocopier?

Yes, you can make copies if you have money on your T-Card. You can top up your T-Card online or at Robarts. Scanning is free and we have a USB key at the reference desk you can borrow. You must present your T-Card to borrow the USB key and it can not leave the library.

10. I am not a U of T student. May I use the MHL's computers?

No, the MHL's computers are for current U of T students only.

11. Do I have to reserve the Bloomberg terminal?

No, there is no reservation system for the Bloomberg terminal.  There is a half hour time limit that's enforced when someone is waiting to use the terminal.

12. I am not a U of T student but I'm working in Toronto for the summer. May I use your Bloomberg terminal?

No, you may not.  Our license forbids us from allowing non- U of T students to use the terminals, and they are for academic use only.

13. Can I borrow a reserve book overnight?

Yes, if you borrow a book within three hours of closing, you can have it until opening hours the next morning (if we open at 10, have it in the book drop by 10:00 or bring it to the MHL after 10:00).  For example, if the MHL closes at 9:00 pm, you can borrow reserves overnight after 6:00 pm.  When we close at 5:00 PM, course reserves borrowed after 2:00 PM are due the next day.

14. Where is the book drop?

On the main floor of the North Rotman building- when you enter the building, turn left, pass the Front Desk, Second Cup, and washrooms, and the bookdrop is in the back of the mail room door.  If you have any trouble finding it, ask at the Front Desk.  We also have bookmarks available with maps on the back to the bookdrop.

The bookdrop is only checked at 10:00 AM on weekdays and 12 pm Saturday. If you put items in after these times, you will be charged overdue fees.

15. How do I find out what books are available in the Milt Harris Library?

In the UTL catalogue, go to advanced search, and select Business as the library.

16. I am a student at UTSC or UTM; how can I borrow an item from the Milt Harris Library?

Go to the "Sharing Options" button, then select Request in the UTL catalogue record for the item and it can be sent to your library for pick-up.  The library is not responsible for shipping times.  It usually takes a week, assuming the book is in the library.

17. I can't find a book in the UTL catalogue, can I order it via inter-library loan? Or will you buy it for your collection?

You can check RACER to see if you can borrow it from another university in Ontario.  You can notify our staff if you think a book would be a good fit for our collection, and we will let you know if we acquire it.

18. Do you have a lost and found?

Yes, but we regularly take items down to the Front Desk for them to keep in the building's lost and found, so check there as well.

19. Are you hiring? Where can I find job postings for the Milt Harris Library?

For students, we have only part-time graduate student library assistant (GSLA) positions ( around 4.5-9 hours a week) and we hire iSchool students who are enrolled in graduate studies. We do not hire undergraduates or students from other universities.

All of our job postings are on UTL's student jobs site. Usually our job postings for the fall and winter terms are up in August. Occasionally we hire at other times of the year. We do not post any job notices on our website but we may link to a posting on our Twitter feed.

20. What is your food and beverage policy?

Drinks in closed containers are permitted. Food is not permitted.
