Potential for Conflict of Interest and Funding Disclosure Statement

The Behavioural Economics in Action at Rotman [BEAR] research centre, and its Behaviourally Informed Organizations initiative is primarily supported by research grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the University of Toronto. Some activities are partially funded by private donations from corporations that wish to support the centre’s mission. We currently do not conduct any commercial activities that may pose potential conflicts of interest. However, we acknowledge that these funding arrangements have the potential to create a material conflict of interest. We have developed processes for data collection, analysis, and disclosures that help to ensure that our research is conducted impartially and fairly. All of our research activities involving human participants are also subject to approval from the Human Research Ethics Unit at the University of Toronto.

All funds received are administered by the University and acts as a safeguard to ensure that funds are spent responsibly, and in accordance with any terms and conditions attached. Every effort is made to uphold the University’s reputation for fairness, integrity and honesty; most importantly, the entitlement of students and employees to equitable treatment. The University also expects of its members the highest standards of ethical conduct in every aspect of research, in accordance with the University’s Policy on Ethical Conduct in Research. When publishing the finding of research, the University Policy on Conflict of Interest – Academic Staff requires faculty members to disclose the source of funding in the publication unless the faculty member has obtained approval to do otherwise.
